This project took almost one year to complete and more than 50.000 shots, mostly with two Nikon cameras, D600 and D7000, and ShooTools Camera Slider One. I used wide angle lenses with a very fast aperture (Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8, Tamron 24-70 f/2.8, Samyang 24 f/1.4, Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6) and a couple of longer lenses (Nikkor 50 f/1.4 MF and 105 f/2).In some of the sequences I used a B+W ND110 filter to get a smooth water.

All the images have been taken in Abruzzo – Italy, a small area with different landscapes, from the shores on the Adriatic Sea to the harsh mountains of Campo Imperatore at more than 1500 metres above sea level. Planning and scouting were some of the best aspects of this project. Abruzzo territory is a paradise for photographers, you could travel along Campo Imperatore and find dozens of wonderful photo spots. A lot of footage has been taken at night; I needed isolated places where my shots didn’t suffer from light pollution and I also studied moon phases. I could tell so many stories about those nights – being followed by a boar one day, another time walking for two hours in the pitch black darkness in a narrow and scary valley or having the lights of Roccascalegna castle turned off especially for us, in order to take the most amazing sequence of the video.
My main idea was to show the most famous places (Rocca Calascio, Punta Aderci) but also other spectacular locations that many people didn’t know about.

I used Camera Slider One mostly for super wide angle movements and most of the impact of this video is due to the camera running across the slider, both in daylight sequences and in the nighttime ones. That’s why I chose to use a pretty long one.
